Summary
The Sympathizer travels to an address in a rundown quarter of Paris and gives a password given to him by Le Cao Boi. The door is answered by a housekeeper, who leads The Sympathizer inside and offers him a drink. The apartment features a large television. A man that The Sympathizer calls the eschatological muscle is seated in an armchair watching a news segment that appears to be about existentialism. The Sympathizer recognizes the Maoist PhD as one of the two people on the television program. The eschatological muscle comments that he prefers Fanon and Césaire to Sartre, and The Sympathizer is reminded of a class in which he studied their work.
