Summary
The Sympathizer looks at the money he has earned through his drug sales and contemplates the fact that money is more valuable than human life. He reflects that, though he killed Sonny and the crapulent major, he has never harmed money. He worries that his mother would disdain his line of work, but takes pleasure in imagining what his father would think. He makes his deliveries successfully and nonchalantly without any harassment by law enforcement. Le Cao Boi observes to The Sympathizer that Asian people are not bothered by law enforcement because the law is more prejudiced against Arabs. The Sympathizer struggles to understand what marks a person as an Arab. The Sympathizer begins disguising himself as a Japanese tourist while making deliveries. Bon approaches The Sympathizer with the idea of surveilling the Vietnamese Union to attempt to root out communists...
