Summary
The Committed utilizes a first-person narrator, who introduces himself as “a man of two faces and two minds” (3) who finds himself dead. His passport identifies him as Vo Danh. He is known as The Sympathizer, and has been nameless for a long period of time. He works as a spy. He and Bon, his blood brother and fellow refugee, journey to Paris in search of asylum, at which point The Sympathizer assumes the name Vo Danh. The Sympathizer has a brief and unpleasant encounter with one of the security guards at the airport. Bon catches The Sympathizer crying, which is a frequent habit of his.
