Summary

Mary's health slowly improved, and with her new knife, she could help Gonkon in Chapter 9. A group of Kiowa-Apache approached for a visit. Jube met a white captive of the Kiowa-Apache, who claimed to be a member of the tribe in broken English. Six-year-old Cherry had since been adopted by Gonkon. Mary and Jube cleaned themselves in order to be welcomed inside Aperian Crow's tipi. Aperian Crow named Jube Fights in Autumn due to his newly bald head. Inside the tipi that night, Cherry was adept in both Kiowa spoken and sign language, engaging with guests and making them laugh. Jube also learned the language quickly.
