Summary
“Faces” follows a 12-year-old boy named William. One day, William’s mother becomes concerned when he cannot seem to distinguish any of his friends. He is unsure of their names, and he cannot distinctly describe any of their faces or personalities. At the dinner table, William’s mother and father ask him more questions about his friends, and about their extended family members. They grow increasingly concerned as it becomes clear that William is apparently unable to distinguish people from each other. William’s mother takes him to a doctor, who has William look at pictures of various people. It soon becomes clear that William has almost no ability to recognize faces, or to discern anything else about a person from their appearance. One picture is a photograph of soldiers, all of whom are either dead...
