Summary
James brings Lloyd tea and finds a sketch of the large painting on the table. James is astonished to discover that the likenesses in it are copied from his own work. Lloyd enters the studio and James accuses him of copying his idea. Lloyd says copying is what artists do. He offers to show James the painting. James is impressed by it.
James walks to the cliffs, furious that Lloyd has stolen his ideas. After lamenting the theft, he goes to Bean Uí Fhloinn’s house. James tells her that he has become unsure of Lloyd, because Lloyd has stolen from him. Bean Uí Fhloinn says that Lloyd is a magpie, and that it is in his nature to steal.
