Summary
Masson continues to work on his dissertation. He writes of the differing levels of English comprehension between Bean Uí Fhloinn, Bean Uí Néill, Mairéad, and James. He overhears James and Lloyd speaking to each other in the cottage next door.
Lloyd compliments James’s painting and says that he needs to wash up. James asks how Lloyd’s work at the hut is going and Lloyd says it is going well, joking that James should not tell Masson. He compliments James again, and James says that he does not want to be a fisherman, but an artist. Lloyd warns him that it is not an easy life.
