Summary
In "At that Time, or The History of a Joke," after Dr. Heiliger "hysterically ripped" a woman's uterus from her body, she demanded a "uterine transplant" (316). Soon after the procedure, she discovered the new womb already contained a “rolled-up fetus" (316). When the woman gave birth, everyone was shocked that the baby was black. Dr. Heiliger heralded the child as the savior, because the woman had been a virgin. When people discovered the baby was a girl, Dr. Heiliger stood by his story, saying "Yes, it is a girl. A virgin born of a virgin" (318).
In "Anxiety," a woman watches out her window as the "young fathers" collect their children from school (319). One of the fathers yells at his daughter for bouncing on his neck, and crying "Oink oink" (320). The woman calls down, asking why...
