Clover Brooks
Clover is the main protagonist and the narrator of the novel. She is a 36-year-old death doula with strong compassion for people and a desire to make sure that nobody dies alone. This is partially because of her own comfort with death and experiences as a child. Later on, though, it is revealed that she started her career after her grandpa died alone while she was in another country. Clover never forgave herself for this, but her time with Leo and Claudia helps her recognize her guilt and return to her passion for travel.
As a character, Clover is extremely intelligent and analytic. She sees patterns in nearly everything and is a master in observation. However, she suffers from anxiety which often causes her to spiral into a deep panic, especially when in a social situation that she does not feel she has control over. Over time...
