Importance: Milla asks Jon to find out if he writes to escape his reality. In many ways she is right. Jon writes to escape his boring life and sour wife. Try as he might he can't finish writing his book or even start. It is possibly because he knows after the book he will have to be only Jon.

Importance: Jon is looking out the window of the attic and sees his children and realizes he has to hold on to them now and not let their childhood slip between his fingers. He doesn't want to not be there for his daughters' childhood but that is hard now since he is in the attic most days.
