Summary

Chapter 5 shows Jenny as an invalid. Most likely as a result of her alcoholism, she has fallen and broken her hip. Then dementia seems to have set in and she is incoherent most of the time. Siri, upon hearing about her mother, comes right away to see her, but Irma, Jenny's roommate bars the way. Siri, incensed, reminds Irma that she is Siri's daughter. Irma begrudgingly stands aside. Siri often returns to help care for her mother and each time must confront Irma, who continues to tell Siri that her mother doesn't want her there. During one of their visits Jenny tells Siri that she 'broke that girl with the car'. Thinking that she's talking about Milla, Siri attempts to get the truth out of her, but fails.

Oddly enough, it is the continual harassment by Milla's mother, Amanda, that brings Jon and Siri...
