Summary

In Chapter 17, Ann woke up in Leo’s apartment. She attempted to piece together the events of the previous night, but her memory was spotty. In the library, she noticed the door to Patrick’s office ajar and entered to find his body splayed across the floor. Rachel was mechanically performing chest compressions even though Patrick was evidently not breathing. Ann called an ambulance, and they sat on the floor waiting for the medics to arrive. She wanted to ask what had happened but could not bring herself to utter the words. Before the police arrived, they slipped the packet of tarot cards out of Patrick’s office. That evening Ann questioned Rachel about her memory of the previous night. Her colleague insisted that she could not remember everything from the night before, but she knew Patrick was fine when she left...
