Yaqub's Shop
Yaqub’s shop is where Nahri sends her marks to get healing herbs. The chaotic shop has a battered bell and is filled with mismatched shelves on top of which sit dusty vials, tiny baskets, and crumbling ceramic jars. Animal parts and dried herbs hang from the ceiling, and clay pots sit on the floor.
El Arafa
El Arafa is “The City of the Dead” where Nahri first encounters the ifrits. All of Cairo is buried here; at the beginning of the book many new burials have occurred because of a recent plague. The place smells of old fire, and one can hear the sound of fighting cats among the domed tombs. The tombs are dark, ancient, and neglected.
