Summary
Chapter 28
The action flashes back to Ali’s time underwater. There, he hears a voice in the lake telling him to give his name or see what shall pass. He has a vision of Daevabad in ruins with all his loved ones either dead or in peril. He says his name, and his hands are suddenly gripping a hilt. He emerges from the water, goes onto the ship, and chops off Dara’s hand.
The next scene is Ali dreaming of a moment where Zaynab is showing him how to make water dance using the motion of her hands. As she is doing this, Ali’s mother appears and scolds Zaynab and pulls her away by the ear. After they are gone Ali himself successfully beckons the water to dance.
