Summary
Chapter 6
The scene opens at the palace. Ali and a royal guard, Wajed, make their way to the public execution of Anas, who will die by facing the the king’s karkadann, a large, frightening creature that is half horse and half elephant. Watching from a private terrace are the king, Ali’s half-brother, Muntadhir, Ali, Wajed, and Kaveh, the king’s grand wazir. After Kaveh reads the charges against Anas, Anas curses the king for not protecting the shafit. Anas is impaled and then trampled by the karkadann.
Afterwards, the king commands for all the Tanzeem to be killed in order to avoid an uprising. According to the king, the Tanzeem have been calling for burning Daevas in the temple.
