Summary
Chapter 4
The scene shifts to a misty morning in Daevabad, where Prince Alizayd al Qahtani (Ali) attends morning prayer in a mosque in the middle of the city. There, he meets with Anas Bhatt, a shafit who has no magical abilities. The two discuss rumors whether the Tanzeem, a radical group of shafit, are trying smuggle weapons past the royal guard, an accusation Anas denies, and they also confer about how the Tanzeem are spending Ali’s donations. Anas tells Ali an audit of his expenditures is not possible, but that if he meets him that night, he will show him where the money is going. He instructs Ali to dress in disguise.
