The Precious Gift of a Child
From the beginning of the book Mary has learned that Richard spends little time with his daughter and she encourages him to correct this. Richard does not understand why Mary is always nagging him about working too hard and giving him books to read to his daughter. When Mary comes to Richard and asks him what the first gift of Christmas was, Richard is deeply shocked and surprised when Mary becomes angry at his flippant answer. Richard blames Mary's brain tumor for her attitude, but Keri tells him that Mary is trying to tell him something but he is not listening.
