Point of View

The novel is written in the first person point of view. The narrating character is Kyra, a thirteen year old girl who lives in a Compound governed by a Prophet. Kyra is perfectly happy in this compound until she is told that she will have to marry her much older uncle. Kyra tries every way she can to find a way out of it without upsetting the community, but finally decides her only choice is to run away.

The point of view of this novel is the most intimate a fiction writer can choose. The first person point of view keeps the reader very close to the narrating character, not allowing any confusion for the reader as the author remains solely with one character throughout the novel.
