Chapters 3-4 Summary

Chapter 3. Mother Sarah is sick again. Mother Claire comes over and pins the pieces of Kyra's wedding dress to her. Later that night, Mother Sarah goes into labor. The baby is too early and quickly dies. Kyra is convinced it is her fault for bringing too much stress down on her mother.

That night, Joshua comes to Kyra's window and tells her he is leaving with a group of other boys. They only have a short time before the God Squad will come after them, therefore they cannot take Kyra with them. However, Joshua promises that he will come back for her.

The next day, there is a special meeting in the Temple. The children are all called to the front. The Prophet talks about disobedience and about several boys who ran away the night before. As he talks, the Prophet...
