Chapters 7 and 8 Summary

It's two weeks after the party when Mack shows up at the aparthouse. He tells Babs it's over and that he wants the cufflinks Mags gave him for his birthday that he thinks he left in her room. She says she doesn't have them and sends him away. After he leaves, she throws the cufflinks into the ashtray and puts her cigarette ashes on top.

Then, she walks with Bettina to the bathroom, throws the ashtray contents into the toilet and flushes them. Babs assures Bettina that Mack will come back but that you have to get rid of their things so the men know that they can't just do want they want to do.

Two weeks after this, Mack still hasn't returned. Babs packs Bettina into her Jaguar and they drive to Tea House, where Babs grew up, and where...
