The Yunnan Province

The Yunnan Province in China is where Shelley is born and grows up. As the descendant of a prostitute, he and his father are shunned by the extended family and often treated like servants. After Shelley’s mother died and his father slipped into depression, Shelley wanders the neighborhood more often, learning about the concept of the Chinese Groove, or the connection countrymen have to help each other. Eventually, Shelley goes to school and meets Lisbet, but spends time in America to fulfill his mother’s dream for him. In the end, Shelley returns to the Yunnan Province with his father, but builds his own family.
