Yunior
Yunior is the main character of the story. Although the narration of the story is written in the second person, the narration is still from Yunior’s perspective and in his narrative voice. Yunior is a recurring character in much of Diaz’s work, and many Yunior stories use this same mode of narration and perspective. Yunior was born in the Dominican Republic, but his family moved to the United States when he was young. Yunior’s age in this story is not stated, but he seems to be in his thirties. At the beginning of the story, Yunior’s fiancée discovers that Yunior has been repeatedly unfaithful to her. She ends their relationship, and Yunior moves from their New York City apartment to Boston, where he teaches creative writing at Harvard University.
