Colonel Sam Hollis
Colonel (later General) Sam Hollis is an officer in the U.S. Air Force working as an air attaché to the Soviet Union at the American embassy in Moscow. Hollis is somewhere in his late forties and is still considered quite attractive "in a tough sort of way" (Chap. 5, p. 39). Hollis is tall and rather lanky, with pale blue eyes and sandy blond hair. Most often, Sam Hollis dresses in blue jeans, a turtleneck sweater, a leather bomber jacket and leather boots. Hollis is a pilot and would like nothing better than to return to flying jets one day. Sam is a man who has seen a great deal of combat, having flown bombing missions during the Vietnam war.
