Summary
In Chapter 13, Louise expresses her distaste for movies, which she feels are forced. Cora, annoyed, thinks instead of the Florence Night Mission--a location mentioned in Mary O’Dell’s letter, that she has discovered is now closed. Now, Cora waits on a response from Mary herself. To distract herself from waiting by the mailbox, Cora spends her days visiting tourist attractions. In a letter, Alan describes how Howard and Earle were surprised to hear Cora was accompanying Louise, who they know from school and a beautiful, popular, but snobbish girl. Alan also sends Cora money, which he tells her to use to buy something nice for herself. Cora becomes irritated at the thought of using Alan’s money to buy herself something, and heads to the orphanage instead.
