Summary
In Chapter 3, Cora, Alan, Louise, and Leonard (Louise’s father) gather at Wichita’s train station to see Cora and Louise off to New York City. Cora admires the beautiful new train station, which feels palatial to her. She thinks about the even bigger and more bustling cities that are ahead. Cora decides to go check on Louise, who left to use the bathroom more than 20 minutes prior. She quickly finds Louise drinking a Coca-Cola and talking with an older man. Cora draws Louise away from the conversation, but she does not reprimand her. Instead, she thinks about how she plans to help guide Louise.
Soon, Cora and Louise say goodbye to Alan and Leonard. Leonard says he hopes Louise will become the best dancer in Wichita. Louise replies she already is the best dancer in Wichita. The novel then hints at Louise...
