Summary

Alma began teaching Filomena to read and write. Perla was transferred to a prison in DR and Filomena visited her there. Alma’s sisters returned to America. Alone in her house in the cemetery, Alma could not stop hearing the stories of everything around her, including domestic objects like spoons.

Filomena became concerned for Alma’s health after the departure of her sisters. She noticed that she was not eating and was losing weight. Filomena began eating meals with Alma to encourage her to have more food and told Alma stories while they ate.

The narrative switches to the perspective of Pepito. Pepito worked as an academic in New York and did research about Alma’s writing. He was amazed to discover his aunt Filomena worked for Alma in DR. He tried to convince Filomena to introduce him to Alma but Filomena was reluctant...
