Summary

In the cemetery, Manuel and Bienvenida remembered each other from Bienvenida’s hospital stay in New York. Manuel told her the story of what happened to him after she was discharged. He met a young Dominican woman named Lucia who came to his hospital with a sprained ankle. Manuel and Lucia began dating despite the disapproval of Lucia’s parents. Lucia and her family returned to wait for Manuel to obtain his medical license in America, at which point they would get married.

Bienvenida continued her story. Arístides proposed to Bienvenida and she accepted but when el Jefe heard the news he intervened and told Bienvenida that he would take Odette back to DR if she remarried. Bienvenida broke off her engagement and later learned that Arístides had disappeared. Bienvenida and Odette relocated to Canada.
