Summary
Part II continues with some backstory about Filomena and her sister Perla. Filomena and Perla grew up in the campo (countryside) of DR with their father, who was violent towards them. Their mother, a woman named Tatica, left them when they were very young and their father died when Perla was 16 and Filomena was 11, leaving the girls to fend for themselves. Perla began a relationship with a man from the city, Tesoro. Tesoro pleaded with Perla to move to the city with him and she agreed, forcing Filomena to come with them against her will. When they arrived at Tesoro’s family home, the girls discovered they had been taken there to become maids for the family, not for Perla to marry Tesoro as they had believed.
However, it quickly transpired that Perla was pregnant and Tesoro’s father forced him to marry her...
