Summary

The chapter begins after Naomi’s parents die in a plane crash days after her 43rd birthday. Marielle and Naomi had briefly stayed in touch after Marielle’s funeral before falling basically out of contact again, but Naomi calls her first and Marielle comes to see her. Naomi wants to go to Mexico to hold her funeral there, and the five friends all convene there. They go to dinner at a nice restaurant near the famous hotel they stay at. Afterwards, they return to their hotel room and talk about how much Marielle’s funeral helped her move to Oregon and live “in an animal shelter” (143).
