Summary

The chapter begins with Marielle, five weeks after Alec’s death, meeting a man named Max in an art museum. They hit it off and marry later that year when Marielle is pregnant with their child. When the child, Mia, is born, Max becomes somewhat vacant until he begins having affairs. He asks for a divorce when “Mia was just shy of seventeen” (71). After that, Marielle calls Naomi and tells her she wants to hold her funeral. Naomi is able to gather the rest of the friends to have the funeral at Sur la Vie.
