Summary
This chapter begins with Jordan Vargas, a “public relations executive” with a “mortgage, a business he owned with his husband, and aging immigrant parents…from Bogotá” (4). He is with several of his friends – Craig, Naomi, Marielle, and another Jordan nicknamed Jordy, who is his husband – in Big Sur, seeing them for a long weekend. The five met about three decades ago as fellow transfer students to Berkeley. There was another person in their friend group named Alec, but he seems to have died long ago. Marielle runs an animal rescue in Boring, Oregon. As the five of them try to figure out what to get for dinner, they talk among themselves.
