Pages 238-265 Summary

The boys stay in their cabins throughout the next day, as Michael worries about what will happen to Emily. In the evening, the three eat dinner apart from the others and then wait on the Promenade Deck for nightfall. The prisoner is taken for his walk, but this time, he grabs a guard and threatens to break his neck if his chains are not unlocked. Asuntha appears from the shadows. A guard unlocks Niemeyer's feet but his hands are still chained when a night watchman comes upon the scene and blows his whistle, causing the prisoner to flee with his daughter.
