Logic and Emotion
Logic and emotion are set up as opposite within the novel, but the story eventually argues that both are needed for a happy and healthy life. Susan prides herself on being an exceptionally logical woman. Ever since she had moved away from her chaotic childhood and started her own life, she has prized order and control above all else.
