Part 8, The Search: Chapters 1-9 Summary
In chapter one, Pendergast picks up Nora and rushes to Riverside Drive.
In chapter tw, Custer interrogates Brisbane over his argument with Puck the day he died. Custer searches Brisbane's office as he talks. When Custer opens the closet, a derby hat falls out. Brisbane immediately insists it is not what they think.
In chapter three, Pendergast and Nora pause beside Smithback's rented car, hoping to find something with the address written on it, but cannot find anything. Pendergast has the driver drop them off and they begin searching for the house on foot.
In chapter fur, Brisbane explains that the derby is part of a costume he wears to costume parties at the Museum. However, Custer does not believe him and decides to place him under arrest.
