Part 6, The Old, Dark House: Chapters 1-7 Summary
In chapter one, Smithback reads through the papers he has stolen and realizes the only information worth researching is the address. Smithback decides to rent a car and check out the address to see if the house still exists. Smithback drives by the house, which looks solid but abandoned, and decides to check it out up close. Smithback parks nine blocks away, the closest he could find a parking spot, and walks back. All the windows on the first floor are covered with tin and the doors are locked tight. Smithback decides to climb up to a second floor window.
