Part 3, The Appointed Time: Chapters 9-15 Summary
In chapter nine, an unidentified man sits in a basement room and prepares to inject some kind of serum into his arm, something he hopes will prove his experiments are working.
In chapter ten, Nora goes to visit Clara McFadden, the elderly daughter of the late Tinbury McFadden. Clara tells Nora that she once met Enoch Leng and that he resembled a walking cadaver. Clara also says that she believes Leng is responsible for her father's disappearance over seventy years ago. Clara says her father believed Leng caused the fire that destroyed Shottum's Cabinet and killed Shottum.
In chapter eleven, Pendergast uses a relaxation technique to mentally walk through New York in the year 1881 in order to mentally walk through Shottum's Cabinet and find the reason why Leng had his lab there. Pendergast...
