Summary

In the Prologue, news reporter Bethany Waites holds a bullet in her hand as she considers an opportunity she has been given. She believes the email asking her to come and meet to talk is an invitation she must take. She sends Mike Waghorn, her friend and co-anchor a text. She knows that he will not read it until the following morning. He knows the story on which she is working. She will be sad to leave him behind. She wonders if she will live or die, but she wants more out of her life.

In Chapter 1, Pauline Jenkins, a makeup artist, is preparing Ron Ritchie, a former union boss, for his interview with Mike Waghorn about Coopers Chase, the retirement community where Ron lives. Ron is relieved when he sees his friend and fellow member of their self-proclaimed Thursday Murder...
