Summary
In Chapter 7, Harry is counting money in the apartment she shares with Leon. She tells him that she thinks they may be able to get out of the drug business in “seven or eight months” (184). Leon and Harry have been friends since they were kids. Leon is the son of an indigenous Venezuelan father, Alfredo, and an English mother. Leon never met his father, who went to college in England so he could convince Westerners to stop hurting his people. His mother, alternately, ran away from home and came to live with the man who had brought Alfredo to England. When Leon and Harry were 13, they started selling cigarettes to their classmates. After they graduated high school, they started selling marijuana, and “Life was theirs at last” (194). Over the years, they only grew more successful...
