Cass
Cass is both the narrator and the main character in the narrative. Matthew is her husband and she believes that Rachel is her best friend and the sister she never had. During most of the narrative, she tends to trust and distrust the wrong people. For example, she trusts Matthew and Rachel. She does not trust John or herself.
The stories Cass tells, which prove to be untrue or distorted, show that Cass is an unreliable narrator. Signs appear at the beginning of the narrative indicating that her view of her marriage may not be as happy as she says it is and that she should perhaps not trust Matthew as much as she does.
