Summary

Cass begins to panic when the phone rings in the chapter titled “Friday, August 14th,” and she jumps when she hears the clatter of the letter box. Even though she is nervous when she sees a letter addressed to her, she opens it and sees that Jane’s husband, Alex has written her. His kind response makes her feel that she has to tell him what happened that night as maybe his confirmation that there is nothing she could have done will make her feel better. Then she gets a call from the silent caller. She feels as if she needs to get out of the house. As she leaves, she sees the mysterious man she has seen before.
