Summary

In Chapter 14, when Tamika enters the break room, Colin and Allie hug goodbye. Allie tells Tamika about the Valencia house, the first thing she can call her own.

The shop gets busy. Tamika starts picking out clothes for them to wear to Fire Fete, including an outfit for Leo. Allie is sure he will not go and will not let her attend.

That night, Allie asks Leo about Fire Fete. He starts ranting about the event. Upset that Allie is reading instead of listening, he beats her. She wakes up sore, with Leo telling her he loves her.

The shop is so busy all week, Allie has no time to think about “Leo, Valencia, Colin or Jankie” (156). On Friday, Allie and Bobby go to a hotel. She feels ashamed when she sees the makeup stains on the sheets (157).
