Summary
In “January 2,” “Mammie had been silent” since Uncle Allan disappeared, leaving Colin behind (53). She started talking when she showed Allie how to bottle-feed Colin. When he woke up crying for Allan, Allie comforted him.
In Chapter 6, Jerry arrives at the shop to do the window display. He and Allie have known each other for years. She always hires him for such jobs, as she respects his work. Meanwhile, Tamika exclaims about the house Curtis secured for them.
Jerry and Allie discuss Jerry’s display. Then Jerry confronts Allie about Leo. He shows her scars on his body from his abusive ex. He fears Leo’s violence will worsen.
