Summary
In Chapter 21, before the next trial, the lawyer for the insurance companies announced that he had finally convinced his client to pay the claims. Even though the company agreed to settle, however, they continued to stall on the payment. It was the end of July before the checks began to come in and repair work could start.
In Chapter 22, Hugh was put in charge of the renovation of The Truck Stop, a building that survived the storm because it was built of bricks and concrete. It became Hugh’s new hangout. Hugh was playing pool there when he met Jimmie Crane. Jimmie believed he and Hugh could make a fortune smuggling weapons if they could come up with the $10,000 in start-up funds.
