Summary
In Chapter 14, when Jesse told Dubisson he planned to run for district attorney, Dubisson warned him that he would not be able to clean up the coast and that there was a possibility that he might even get hurt in the process. When Jesse said he hoped Dubisson would run a clean race, Dubisson warned him there was nothing clean about politics. Lance, meanwhile, was amused by Jesse’s plans to run for office. He was not concerned because he believed Fats could keep Jesse from getting elected.
A month before the election, the tires of the man volunteering as Jesse’s campaign manager were slashed. He was intimidated enough that he left his position. Keith quit baseball and assumed the role of campaign manager.
