Chapter Thirteen (Jackson) Summary
Even though Jackson has dumped her and started going out with (and possibly having sex with) her best friend, Ruby is still desperately in love with him. She thinks about him every day and knows that if he showed up at her doorstep tomorrow, she would take him back. When Ruby comes home after her talk with Shiv, she sits on the dock with Hutch - who is still working on the garden with Ruby's dad - and they talk about Jackson. Hutch says Jackson is a mean person undeserving of Ruby's love. When he was in sixth grade, he and Jackson were best friends. The next year, however, Jackson had become more popular than Hutch and started freezing him out.
