Chapter Six (Tommy) Summary
Tommy Hazard is the imaginary boyfriend Kim and Ruby invented while they were on a class trip in the seventh grade. During their hike, they girls ran out of things to talk about, so they started discussing the perfect guy. For Ruby, the perfect guy was a blond-haired surfer with slightly crooked teeth and a voice so low it felt as if she was the only person in the room who could hear him when he spoke. He smelled of chorine from his family's swimming pool and raced Ruby on the handlebars of his blue, ten-speed bicycle. In eighth grade, Ruby's Tommy was an electric guitar playing punk rocker with a sensitive side.
