The System
Evidence presented in the novel illustrates that neither those who work with the system, or those who subvert it, really get the justice for which they are looking. For instance, Chambers and Strauss do not turn public opinion against Eggers when they illegally get an incriminating video of him aired. In contrast, however, Hester plays by the rules; but, she is unable to get an innocent man out of prison. Regardless, Hester still argues that although the American system might be flawed, it is still the best system.
Strauss and Chambers believe that if the video Dash has of Eggers is aired, Eggers will have to step down as a Presidential candidate.
