Summary
Chapter Nine
Will goes to his first circus performance. At first, he is incredibly nervous, but after seeing the way the crowd reacts he gets into the act and finds himself enjoying the performance. He is dismayed to see the living conditions of the poorer cabins though. Everyone is crammed together in small spaces, and there’s a merchant selling basic goods for well above their value, knowing that on the train there’s nowhere else for the lower class citizens to go for food and medicine. Will buys medicine for a young boy whose family can’t afford it. He also draws him a picture of a toy that he lost to try and ease his spirits.
