In the novel's concluding chapter, Aminata is in London, preparing to visit Parliament and offer testimony in support of abolishing the slave trade. She admits she could have stayed in Freetown, but she wanted to help the abolitionist cause, and so crossed the ocean for the fifth time. She becomes reacquainted with John Clarkson, whom she has not seen in eight years; she also meets his brother Thomas, who is an even more ardent supporter of abolition than John.
Sir Stanley Hastings, a leader of the abolitionist movement, says that he will write a short account of Aminata's life to offer to the parliamentary committee as proof of abuses in the slave trade.
