Summary

In Part 3, Chapter III, Kylie travels by train to the village of Thornfield. At a tea house, Kylie asks the owner about Thomas Lockland. The owner seems apprehensive when he wishes Kylie luck. Kylie calls Antonia and asks her sister to put the phone up to Gideon and Kylie can hear Gideon breathing. Kylie meets Tom and is suspicious of him. Tom’s “life’s work [is] revenge” (201) and also suffers from a family curse. Kylie and Tom talk, but Kylie stops short of telling Tom about The Book of the Raven. Kylie explains that she believes her family’s curse began near this location. Tom realizes who Kylie is and that they are very distant relatives.
